A Dream Act Without the Dream
Published: March 27, 2012

The only Dream Act worth passing is simple. It tells high schoolers who want to make something of themselves, for the good of the country, to go ahead. Join the military or go to college and take your place as full-fledged citizens in the only country you know. That Republicans reject this shows how far they have strayed from American ideals of assimilation and welcome.

Taxation without representation? Was not that what started the American Revolution? (No, not the Tea Party verision of taxation only)

"While a path to citizenship would be nice, i think its a tough sell in the current political environment. Also it is wrong to assume that all these people actually want to become US citizens. A look at the numbers of long time GC holders in US proves this point. In fact the administration came out with a memo sometime ago asking long time GC holders to become US citizens. As for nation-less people, these kids were not born in the US so this argument does not arise. I think people need to make realistic decisions and the most important being legalization."

I disagree specially if some of these individuals would gain status by serving in the military and risking their lives yet they still do not get to be citizens....how can the swear to defend the flag and the country that technically is making them less that others. I think as opposed to many immigrants that come here on their own free will these folks were brought here by their parents and this country is all they know... I think the stats that you cite do not apply to them. As to the political climate I think Hispanics should be more mad at the Repuks for presenting them with a choice of 1/2 or nothing and should motivate them to vote the repuks out of office.

"Martinez had been a client of BofA for 14 years. He had a mortgage and two other accounts with the bank and had lived a quiet, hardworking life as a cook and gardener in Sacramento."

Yes, Jack, that's the kind of people US needs to destroy. BoA is inviting its own misfortune by calling cops on their own long time customers.

This an interesting albeit biased article which highlights how our banking system could be used as a deterrent to illegal presence:

"The efforts have unnerved Democratic leaders, who are watching warily — Democrats see their advantage over Republicans among Hispanic voters as one of the party’s greatest strengths in November."

The Democratic sweet spot is talk a good pander game but never deliver so that they can blame Republicans for inertia. This proposal upsets their cynical gameplan and it's hilarious for them now warning "to not buy into GOP efforts on immigration and other issues ahead of the election" before they even know what the proposal is. Their biggest concern seems to be Republicans getting credit, not a lack of action.

Frank Sharry thinks Romney has already blown the election:

“Unless the Etch-a-Sketch comes with a time machine that let’s him go back a year, I think he’s toast,” Mr. Sharry said. “I don’t know how he gets out the corner he painted himself into.”

"I think the Dems argument of creating nation-less people is a good argument.... "

I think the Dems argument of creating nation-less people is a good argument.... You want people to be proud to represent America, it seems that this would not get people there and you are still punishing people for something they did not choose on their own free will.

(Bill likely to pop after Romney clinches nomination. Question is this to little to late to compete for Hispanic vote ?)
