I'm in Rome this week and Friday I'll be in London for the first week of the Olympics. So I'll be blogging lightly over the next few days except I've researched all of the immigrants on the US Olympic team (there are quite a few) and hope to highlight their accomplishments on the blog.
We start first with Somali-born Abdi Abdirahman who is competing in his third Olympics as a marathon runner. Abdi came to the US in 1990 as a refugee of his country's civil war. He was raised in Tucson, Arizona. Abdi finished 15th in 2004 and 10th in 2008 in the marathon. Here's hoping he makes the podium in 2012.
