Newsweek: McCain Tried to Stage an Intervention With Romney

If there is one guy who knows the danger of veering to the right on immigration in a presidential campaign, it's John McCain. The once pro-immigration Republican became Mr. Fence in the 2008 election. And he paid dearly with Hispanic voters who abandoned the GOP in droves en masse. According to Newsweek, his advice is being largely ignored.
