Dems May Add DREAM Act to Party Platform

This seems like a no-brainer. It's being pushed by Congressman Martin Heinrich who is running for the US Senate in New Mexico.

From 2008's platform:

"our current immigration system has been broken for far too long. We need comprehensive immigration reform, not just piecemeal efforts. We must work together to pass immigration reform in a way that unites this country, not in a way that divides us by playing on our worst instincts and fears. We are committed to pursuing tough, practical, and humane immigration reform in the first year of the next administration.We cannot continue to allow people to enter the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked. The American people are a welcoming and generous people, but those who enter our country’s borders illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of the law."

Rule of law lip service would look ridiculous in light of what Rahm Emanuel, Luis Gutierrez, et al. are running around saying. Not to mention the Obama administration itself with its non-enforcement directives. Can you imagine if they said what they really believe in the platform: Undocumented aliens should not be accountable to immigration law unless they are terrorists or really, really, really bad criminals (although for many of us, that threshold is purely theoretical). We want the U.S. to be the most illegal immigrant friendly country in the world. To the billions of foreign nationals who might wish to violate our sovereignty and immigration law, welcome--and remember who's your buddy when you become eligible to vote!
