More of the new tune being sung by the suddenly reasonable Republicans. From the New York Times:
Fresh off an election in which Hispanic voters largely sided with Democrats, Speaker John A. Boehner said Thursday that he was “confident” Congress and the White House could come up with a comprehensive immigration solution.Immigration reform is “an important issue that I think ought to be dealt with,” Mr. Boehner, an Ohio Republican, said in an interview with Diane Sawyer on “ABC World News.”
“This issue has been around far too long,” he said, “and while I believe it’s important for us to secure our borders and to enforce our laws, I think a comprehensive approach is long overdue, and I’m confident that the president, myself, others, can find the common ground to take care of this issue once and for all.”
The words conveyed a new sense of urgency from Mr. Boehner, who said earlier this year that he thought it would be politically impossible to tackle a Republican proposal on the Dream Act, which sought to open a path to citizenship for some students in the United States illegally.
The question is what exactly the Republicans mean by "comprehensive"? Hopefully, it means a proposal along the lines discussed five years ago rather than something modest.

In 2008 the president had said that immigration reform has been like kicking the can off the road and he will not do that. and that is exactly what he did and yet he won. if everything stays same. i.e dems do lip service and the repubs carry on what they have been doing, the results will be the same. So it is the repubs who have to take the initiative to change things around. and if they try and dems don't play ball, latinos will still not vote for the repubs. so in other words there is a little chance that both parties will get along and get something done. Things will not change abt immigration anytime soon. just my thoughts.

2007 CIR will be a disaster for latinos and people already in the line. They wanted to move to a point system that will not help latinos at all.

Faux News clowns are scared $hitless about Hispanics delivering the votes for Obama, and them not even playing the game. There is a lot proverbial "it" left on the BS mountain, but this one has just disappeared.
If you ever worked in a large organization where projects get "popular" (usually, when a big wig spots them, and points out they are important) and all of the former foes rush to "help" and get credit? The same is happening here - now that the Repiblicans overlords on the BS Mountain decided that they will never win again without pandering to Hispanics, Republicans will crawl out of their skins to "help". I would take them up on that and try get the most. Also, I thought I'd never say that - I know exactly how GWB feels now.

More of Obama's trick (lip service with no actions) will now be played by repubs as well. Only time can tell.
