One of the dumber kerfuffles to follow the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut is the petition effort to try and get Piers Morgan deported for - horror - advocating a ban on military-style weapons like the one used in the massacre. My friend Cyrus Mehta briefly discussed this matter on his blog and reminds readers that we do extend free speech rights to people on visas. Yes, there are some rules barring immigrants from advocating for the overthrow of the government or supporting terrorists, but espousing a view agreed to by half the public hardly fits in to those categories.
