However, despite all the issues I have raised in my post above, I think we should pass the legislation and put countries such as the UK flat on their backs!

There are three likely results here both inside and outside the US: (1) It will act as a big boost to the US economy especially skilled immigration; and (2) if the US ever passes this legislation it will do more damange to other industrialized countries such as the UK which have severely restricted skilled immigration. UK will take decades to recover from the policies of David "the dunderhead" Cameron; and (3) It will also divert flows of skilled migrants from countries such as Singapore and Australia towards the US. The numbers of foreigners applyign for work visas in Singapore and Australia could well be cut in half!
