Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has told the Las Vegas Sun that a path to citizenship is not debatable for Democrats in the upcoming debate on comprehensive immigration reform. According to Reid, “There will be nothing done in my Senate (on immigration reform) without a pathway to citizenship.”
Reid also signaled his support for making E-Verify mandatory for all employers, something Republicans are likely to insist on. My personal view is that this is a fair trade off IF it is coupled with a guest worker program so that there is a legal path going forward for employers to hire foreign workers they can demonstrate they need.

Duh--it's about expanding Democratic voter rolls.
